8. Which of the current Web 2.0 trends do you think has the most potential to support student's futures in your classroom? Why do you think so?

Of the current Web 2.0 trends, I think Google Docs has the most potential for student futures because it allows an upload of traditional documents and spreadsheets to online communities. Teachers can seperate assignments based on academic levels without making students feel different from each other. Teachers can set up blogs about assignments per subject or classroom.

What are some of the current educational problems that technology might be able to solve?

Some of the educational problems that technology might be able to solve are allowing parents to check in real time their child's school calendar; updates on homework projects and assignments and being able to collaborate with other schools around the world. Blogging and tagging, for example, are student-alternatives to manual writing and can be controlled by teachers who keeps control of the subject.

6. Two thing I've never heard of, Folksonomy & Software as a Service...Please define & do you do it?

Folksonomy is a practice of collaboratively creating and managing tags, keywords to annotate & categorize content. Used on sites such as Flickr.com for pictures, online books and blog entries.
Saas is an internet-based alternative to the traditional software packages. Multiple users can view, edit and share the same document in real time. I do not use either.

What's a social network? Please provide examples? Do you belong to one?

A social network is a build-up of online communities such as Link-In.com, MySpace and Facebook. I do not belong to any of these online communities.

Is there a difference between a Wiki and a Blog? Which would you be more likely to use?

The difference between a Wiki and a Blog is that a Wiki allows for othersw to contribute to the subject, allowing links and comments. A blog is controlled by the author; he or she allows who can view the page, edit it and post comments. I would be likely to use a Blog instead of a Wiki.

What's a wiki and how can I possibly use it?

A wiki is defined as "A piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser." I can use a wiki by starting a subject line and allowing others to comment. Because it is an "open-edit" of information, it can be edited by anyone, allowing links to other websites to collaborate with the wiki.

What impact will it/or can it have on me as a teacher?

As a teacher, Web 2.0 will impact me by being able to keep parents up to date with real-time information regarding the classroom. Google Docs can allow me to quickly upload worksheets I created for students to work on for homework. It allows collaboration over the holidays if a homework packet is too extensive or if parents cannot attend Open-House, the students can do classroom videos and I can post it to the blog site. Google Calendar is good for school reminders or for jotting down ideas for projects.
